I am a military spouse and mama bird to three absolutely precious babes (Brock 13, Layla 4, and Lilly 1). I am the maker behind Little Pink Pumpkin and the blogger behind Boo and Lu. My love of creating began as a child and I’ve dabbled in a bit of everything craft-wise. However, my true loves were found in the form of sewing and painting. My husband and I met when I was about 5 years old, his father was the pastor of our church. At 18 my husband left home and joined the Air Force, we reconnected about 9 years later. We’ve lived in the sunny Aloha state of Hawaii until recently when the military moved us to cold and snowy Upstate New York.
What do you watch/listen to while sewing?
I listen to podcasts or audio books while I am sewing. My current favorite podcasts are My Favorite Murder and Sawbones.
How long have you been sewing?
I first learned to sew from my mother-in-law when I was a child. She ran a quilting group at our church’s community center and I enjoyed spending my time with the old ladies making quilts. I was probably about 8 or 9? I didn’t actually learn to sew on a machine until my middle school home ec class.
What is the first thing you can remember making?
A quilt at my churches community center.
What’s your favorite part about being a maker?
My favorite part is that feeling I get every time I finish a new project. A feeling of pride, like, “Hey, I made this and it’s pretty awesome!”
What is your favorite substrate to work with and why?
Gosh, this is a hard one! I really love wovens because they’re easy for me, however, I love me some custom knits!
What is your favorite SLPco pattern and why?
I love love LOVE Mila and Adelyn. Mila is my favorite woven pattern for a few reasons. I love the perfect fit, the tulip sleeves, the big beautiful bow, and the gorgeous hem options. Adelyn is by far my favorite and most used knit pattern. She’s gorgeous, and that scoop back leaves me swooning!
In one word sewing is _______?
Rewarding.
What notion could you not live without?
My rotary cutter and mat, I absolutely loathe when I have to break out the scissors to cut out a pattern.
What’s your favorite season?
I love spring the most. The smell, the pastel colors, the warm sun on my skin. Fall is a close second though!
What’s your go-to coffee order?
French vanilla swirl, light and sweet.
What other hobbies do you enjoy when you’re not sewing?
Painting and reading.
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you recently?
My husband asked me to stop at Wendy’s for him recently to bring him home some food. His text message read, “Backwater fries and a dr pepper with no ice” so I asked for backwater fries and was met with much confusion from the staff. His phone auto-corrected “baconator” to “backwater”. I probably won’t show my face there for awhile!
If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Eye of the tiger, for sure.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I look forward to getting to know you all!
