Hampton Sew Along – Day 5

You did it! You’ve reached the last day of the Hampton sew along. I’m so impressed with all your hard work on the bodice construction. Now let’s add the skirts so we can oogle your finished creations.

Attaching the Skirt

If you added pockets to your skirt then you’ve already sewn the sides together. Otherwise, place one skirt piece on top of the other so that right sides are touching. Match up along the side and pin in place. Sew the side seams.

For the gathered skirt version sew two rows of gathering stitches along the top raw edge. Pull the gathering threads and adjust the gathers to be the same width as your bodice.

All versions (gathered/circle) lay your bodice so that the bottom raw edge is at the top. Turn your skirt inside out and slip it over your bodice. The right sides of your bodice will be facing the right side of your skirt. Match up the skirt side seams with the side seams of your bodice and pin in place. Sew the skirt to the bodice.

Flip your Hampton right side out. Sew/serge along the bottom raw edge of the skirt. Fold the hem up 1/2″ and press. Topstitch the hem 3/8″ from the edge. If you have a coverstitch machine you can use it to hem your Hampton. However, if you are only working with a sewing machine I’ve got a video with some helpful tips for you on hemming knit fabrics. I have uploaded the video into the sew along album.

Day 5 Progress

That’s it. You are now done with your Hampton! After all of that hard work, don’t forget to upload your daily progress video into the sew along album. You have until Sunday evening at 8 pm cst to upload all photos. Winners will be announced Monday morning. There are 5 daily prizes up for grabs! Thank you so much for joining me. I hope you had so much fun and learned something new.
