Introducing Skyler

Hi everyone, I’m Brooke from Idle Sunshine! I’m a sewing blogger, pattern tester, fabric lover and coffee drinker from Australia and I am thrilled to introduce you to the newest Simple Life Pattern Company release – Skyler.

Skyler is a knit dress, peplum & tunic, available in sizes 2t – 12 or baby sizes newborn-24 months, with many different sleeve, skirt and back features as options. I love a pattern with options! It really is great value for money when you can create so many different garments with the one pattern.

Skyler can be made sleeveless, with sleeve tabs, short sleeves, elbow sleeves or long sleeves. I started with a long sleeve version because unfortunately it is winter on my side of the planet right now.  Then to show some contrast, I made one sleeveless version as well. I know it looks warm and sunny in these pictures, but it was really icy cold and windy! We stood tight against this building for shelter, but the girls giggled as their winter coats blew away up the street behind me!

Both of my versions I made dress length with circle skirts. There are 3 skirt lengths included – peplum, tunic & dress length and they can all be made as either circle or gathered versions. I love circle skirts, they are so quick to make! I also took a cheeky short cut and specifically chose knits that don’t curl for the skirts, that way I could cut to length neatly without hemming!

I chose a double knit for this long sleeve version. It is a gorgeous crisp stripe, it’s warm and sits really well in the cut out back. I lined the bodice with white cotton lycra and made the skirt and bows from this divine burnout velvet. I think velvet is the perfect look for winter.

For our summer version, I made it the same size, so that either of my girls can wear it (and it also leaves growing room for us to make it to summer)! I used a striped ponte for the bodice, a double knit for the skirt and the bows are a pretty woven floral that I upcycled from a blouse! I chose to make it a simple square back with side sleeve bows. I absolutely adored this feature of the woven cousin of this dress – the Saylor, which released earlier this year!

I may have gone a little crazy making bows.  Once I got started, I couldn’t stop! I’ve already made a stack more and will hot glue them to alligator clips. They make great matching accessories for all our handmade outfits, perfect handmade gifts and will also be great donations to the craft stall for our school fair.

Now through Wednesday, ………….  Skyler is available at 20% off as a new release sale, or grab the Girl and Baby Skyler Bundle for 25% off.

I hope you enjoy this quick sew beauty as much as I do!

Happy Sewing!!
