Tutorial: How to Make a Knit Ava
Happy Thursday!!
I love a pattern so versatile it can be made with woven or knits, don’t you? Did you know Ava’s Pleated Top & Dress is that pattern? With just a few modifications I whipped up a Knit Ava and it is gorgeous!!! Let me show you how it’s done.
Let me show you how it’s done. It’s easy, I promise!!!
All you will need is the Ava’s Pleated Top and Dress pattern and some pretty knit fabric. I used Floral Universe from Maureen Cracknell’s Soulful line for Art Gallery Fabrics.
Cut the front bodice out the same as you would in the pattern. When cutting out the back bodice I cut straight across the neckline to omit the keyhole.
I cut out a 6, which is my daughter’s normal size, but you could also size down for a more fitted look if you’d like.
I didn’t want the extra fabric of the deep hem to weigh the dress down too much so I took an inch off the length. I serged the bottom edge and folded the hem up 1 inch. This way I still had the look of the larger hem but not all the weight. That’s it, easy peasy!!!
I told you it was an easy pattern hack…if you can even call it that!! We’d love to see your Knit Ava as well. You can share them on Instagram with the hashtags #SLPco and #SLPcoKnitAva. Happy Sewing!!
