Scarlett Sewalong: Day 2
Welcome back to day 2 of our Scarlett’s Sun Suit sewlong! I LOVED seeing all of your beautiful fabric choices! It makes me that much more excited for Friday to see the final sun suit! Eek! If you missed day 1, check it out here. Today we’re going to do our rolled hems or add trim around the raw edges of the ruffle strips. On day 1 we cut out our pattern pieces which included cutting out the curves in the ruffle strips.
As the pattern mentions, you can do rolled hems with your serger or by folding over the raw edges twice. You’ll want to do rolled hems along the edges of the ruffles. (Don’t do the rolled hems along the top edge and leg openings yet! We need to sew the side seams together before we do that!)
You can choose to add trim on these raw edges instead of a rolled hem. Finish you raw edges with a serger or zig zag stitch. Fold down the finished edge 1/4″ and top stitch. You can now add any trim you wish to the finished edge. I added rick rack to this Scarlett. (Just take note of the trim. Remember that today we are only finishing the raw edges of the ruffles. The edge of your ruffles can look like the top edge of my Scarlett if you choose to add a trim).
Today is a quick day and offers some catch up time from day 1 if you need that time! Remember to share your progress photos in the SLPco Fan Group!
See you tomorrow!
