Hello Everyone! I’m Cassy and I’m so excited to be joining in on the Simple Life Pattern Co. blog today. I blog about my sewing adventures and creations at Pear Berry Lane. I’ve been sewing regularly for about two and a half years and blogging for just over a year now. I just love all the parts of sewing and blogging. I’ve met so many amazing people throughout this short time and I’m glad to be in such great company here today.

Today I’m sharing a holiday creation. I don’t know about you but I’m usually trying to whip up something for holidays the night before it is supposed to be worn. I’m talking about pulling it off the machine at 2:30 in the morning to be on a body at 7:00 that same morning. Who’s with me? We are kindred spirits if you operate on the same schedule.

Let’s get to talking about this dress. I used the Helena’s pattern and included the flutter option with the ¾ length sleeve. I just absolutely love ¾ length sleeves. They are perfect for all seasons! The back of the dress calls for snaps or buttons. I chose snaps simply because my machine eats button holes in horrible way more often than not. KAMs to the rescue at my house!

For the flutters on this dress I used a narrow rolled hem foot. Do you utilize this foot? It’s a total winner in my book. I use mine almost any time a pattern recommends narrow hems or rolled hems. It gives such a great look and is so easy to use. Mine came with my machine, so if you haven’t tried it be sure to check your feet. You may have one and don’t even know it. On the note of hemming foots, have you seen the one Katie has that does the half inch hem?! She has even made a video showing it off. I want one so badly. Maybe I will put it on my Christmas list for this year.

I didn’t make any major changes to the pattern. The only things I adjusted deal with topstitching. I under-stitched the neckline rather than topstitching. Sometimes I feel this just gives a classier cleaner finish which is perfect for a holiday dress. I also didn’t topstitch the skirt for the same reason. Normally I’m of the group that says topstitch everything, but in this case where I know this dress isn’t going to be worn daily I made an exception.

I snatched up the poinsettia fabric for this dress from the holiday section at Hobby Lobby this year. I’m not usually one to pick out holiday fabric but this was calling to me. I was wandering around and came back to it multiple times. I took that as a sign that I needed to grab it up. I bought enough to make multiple dresses. Helena’s is the first one finished. I may still be up the night before Christmas finishing the other two.

I just love how this dress turned out! If you haven’t given Helena’s a try, I definitely recommend it. It also has a top option that would go great with skinny jeans or leggings. Overall, it’s a fairly quick sew and even faster if you use snaps instead of button holes.

Thanks so much to the Simple Life team for having me today! If you would like to follow more of my creations, be sure to hop over to Pear Berry Lane and follow my blog or connect with me on Instagram!
