Sparkle In The New Year – A Felicity Party Dress

When I think of celebrating New Year’s Eve, I immediately envision the colors black and gold. There’s just something so classic about this color combination and they also give me Gatsby vibes. So, for Chacely’s dress this year I wanted to stick with those colors but add some extra sparkle!

First, I browsed the website to try to decide which pattern to use. I’m not even going to tell you how long I looked and how many times I changed my mind. There are just so many gorgeous options. I eventually chose Felicity for the dramatic back and all those RUFFLES!

For the bodice I chose a multi-sized black sequin fabric as my main fabric and a gold lame fabric for the ruffles. Designer tip: if you’ve never worked with lame fabric before then it is helpful to use a stabilizer on the back. Lame fabric has a very loose weave and unravels horribly. Adding the stabilizer will keep you from ripping seams (and your hair) out! I added gold ruffles to the neckline and arms. Then I added a gold lame piping to the triangular back cutout.

For the skirt I used multiple layers for extra volume. I used solid black batiste as my lining with a shimmery gold star tulle overlay. A solid black tutu pettiskirt gave the skirt extra lift as well.

I hope you love Chacely’s New Year’s Eve dress as much as I do. I can’t wait to see what you create!

Happy sewing,

Chauncey
