Grow With Me Romper – How to use with other patterns

Today I have not one, but TWO, Grow With Me Romper mash-ups to show you. I’ll show you how to hack the GWM romper to use other bodices, like Aria and Bella. Let’s get started with Aria.

Aria

First, print out the Aria bodice piece and GWM romper pieces. You will lay the Aria bodice piece on top of the GWM romper and align at the armscye point and along the fold line.

Now draw a line along the side of the Aria bodice and along the bodice bottom edge.

Next, draw a line 3/8″ above the Aria bodice bottom line. This will account for your seam allowance.

Lastly, draw a grade line from the Aria bodice bottom line to the outside of your romper pattern piece. This line will have a slight curve to match the pattern piece.

Cut out your new romper bottom pattern piece. The pattern piece will look like this.

Cut out your fabric pieces for the Aria bodice and sew according to the pattern directions. Cut out your GWM romper bottom and cuff pieces and sew according to the tutorial. Once you have both pieces made, you will then turn the romper bottom inside out to attach to the Aria bodice.

This adorable Aria/GWM romper is so perfect for Spring!

Bella

The Bella hack is very similar to the Aria hack. First print out your Bella bodice and GWM romper pattern pieces. Since Bella has a curved neckline like the GWM romper, I chose to align the pattern pieces starting along the neckline.

Next, draw a line along the bottom of the Bella bodice piece onto the GWM romper pattern piece.

Remove the Bella pattern piece. Draw a line 3/8″ above the Bella bodice bottom line. This will account for your seam allowance.

Lastly, draw a grade line from the Bella bodice bottom line to the outside of your romper pattern piece. This line will have a slight curve to match the pattern piece.

Cut out your new pattern piece. It will look like this.

Cut out your fabric pieces for the Bella bodice and GWM romper bottom and cuffs. You will sew up the Bella bodice according to the pattern instructions. The GWM romper bottom will be constructed using the free tutorial. Finally, attach the two finished pieces together and you have an adorable strappy romper that will be a staple piece this summer!
