25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS – DAY 12 Isla and Tiffany
On the twelfth day of Christmas Simple Life Pattern Company and Art Gallery Fabrics gave to me a candy cane Isla paired with Tiffany!
Do you ever get an idea in your head that you just can’t shake and have to make right away? That’s how this Isla was for me. I love the free cutouts from SLPco but had been dreaming about a double candy cane with bow cutout.
I found a candy cane freebie online (see below) and printed it at 80% for a size 3T Isla. I then used the modesty panel method from the blog (click here for modesty panel tutorial) to add the striped fabric underneath. Before I topstitched the main fabric to the striped modesty panel I created two bow ties. Then, I sandwiched the ties between the two layers and topstitched around the candy cane to secure the ties and modesty panel in place.
To create the ties cut two strips of fabric 1.75″ x 8″. Fold the strip in half with right sides together and sew along the long raw edge and at an angle along one short edge. Clip your corners and trim the seam allowance. Turn right side out and press.
I used the striped fabric from the candy cane to create Tiffany bow leggings. For the inset I used a solid red to match the Isla top and added green bows to match the bow on the candy canes. I absolutely love how this set turned out. Ainsley has already worn it out running errands and received so many compliments.

A Holiday Freebie
The freebie today is the crossed candy cane template I found online and used for the above Isla. I printed at 80% for a size 3t. I recommend playing around with sizing to get it to your personal preference. Once printed, cut the shape out. Then, use a fabric marker and trace around the shape onto the wrong side of your bodice. Make sure to center the cutout. I just stitched directly onto the traced lines to get a crisp shape.
A Holiday Treat
Have you noticed a candy cane theme yet? Today I have a yummy cherry cheese danish recipe for you in the shape of a candy cane. We like to use puff pastry instead of crescent rolls but it’s totally up to you. I hope you enjoy this yummy and festive treat.
Happy Christmas sewing,
