25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS – DAY 16 Diana
On the sixteenth day of Christmas Simple Life Pattern Company and Art Gallery Fabrics gave to me an Elf inspired Diana that makes me so smiley!
My oldest daughter has become Elf obsessed this year. Elf pajamas. Elf stuffed toys. Elf books. Elf movie. All of it. So I knew I had to make her an elf Diana dress.
I used a solid green knit for the bodice, cascading skirt, and skirt back. For the cascading skirt I used my sewing machine to embroider a scroll design similar to the design on Elf’s tunic. Then, I used a solid yellow for the front underskirt to represent Elf’s iconinc yellow tights. To add a faux belt I cut a strip of solid black knit and topstitched to the bodice. For the buckle I used gold glitter foam and cut a 1.75″ square with a 1″ square cutout in the center.
I cannot tell you how happy I am with how this turned out. It just makes me smile. Smiling’s my favorite. Both girls loved it, too, and both requested an elf spaghetti breakfast photoshoot. If you look closely you’ll see we included a few of the elf’s main food groups (candy and syrup).
Next time I make one, I think I’ll probably leave off the front yellow underskirt and do yellow Trudy tights instead. Which version do you think you would prefer?
