A Holiday Ella in velvet
Hi everyone! My name is Jenna and I’m sure you’ve seen my little model Maizy around the sewing world. I am so excited to share my Holiday sew using the Ella pattern.
As soon as I saw Ella I knew it would be perfect for a holiday dress that I had been envisioning. The only problem was I wasn’t sure how it would work with the bottom skirt being a woven fabric. I am so glad I tried it because it turned out so cute.
For the bodice and top asymmetrical skirt I used stretch velvet that I purchased from Joann Fabrics. For the bottom skirt and tie on the back I used some sparkly Christmas plaid that I repurposed from a table cloth I scored at a thrift shop.
I decided to make the long sleeve version with the short tie option on the back. I love how simple this back is to make while making a big statement. I though using the plaid from the skirt was perfect to add a touch of color to the top of the dress.
For the look I was wanting I knew this asymmetrical skirt was the best way to showcase both fabrics. I love how easy it was to do two layers with the circle skirt version and also loved that there was zero gathering in this version! I chose the vintage length as I find that to be so adorable on my Maizy girl!
We had a lot of fun with the photos as it was really windy before a big storm and her skirt kept wanting to blow up. I love any chance I have to snap photos of my girl just being a carefree young girl!
