Katie Skoog, owner & designer at Simple Life Pattern Company. Getting to know our team.

We have had so many new faces around all our social media channels and I wanted to introduce myself and my wonderful team to all of you. Its always nice to put a face to the name so each day this week we will have a post on each team member. I am Katie, the owner and designer behind Simple Life Pattern Company. We have compiled a list of fun questions that we will each answer. We love seeing your creations and learning about you during your posts in the SLPco Fan Group, so we are sharing a little about us. I am married to a very supportive husband and we have 4 beautiful little girls, who you will see in most of my posts. We live in a super small town in North Dakota and love it here, despite the crazy cold winters (Thats when I get a lot of work done). I love stretchy pants, messy buns and coffee.

I am super excited to FINALLY announce that I am designing fabrics for Art Gallery Fabrics now! This has been a dream come true. I love surface design. It is so fun to take my paintings / drawings and turn them into fabric designs. You know that I LOVE AGF fabrics so I am very honored to be apart of this amazing team of talented designers. I couldn’t be happier right now. #WestPalmFabrics #ArtGalleryFabrics

What do you watch/listen to while sewing?

I love audiobooks. I am really into the twisted thrillers so I listen to a lot of those. If I run out of audiobooks, I listen to all sorts of country music. Every so often I bust out the gangster rap. hehe

How long have you been sewing?

I have been actual sewing for 9 years now. When I was pregnant with my oldest daughter, I was determined to sew a quilt for her. I have sewn my whole life when I was given the chances.

What is the first thing you can remember making?

Oh goodness…. I made a lot of little things when I was a kid. Always trying to sew Barbie/ doll dresses.

What’s your favorite part about being a maker?

The creative freedom. I love taking a bunch of ideas and sorting them out, working out the math and coming up with a beautiful creation.

What is your favorite substrate to work with and why?

Knit for sure. My kids really love when I make them anything in knit so I am drawn to that most often.

What is your all-time favorite creation?

Probably some of the more complex quilts I used to make back in the day. I would spend weeks on one quilt and I loved them. It was so fun to give such amazing gifts to my friends and family.

In one word sewing is _______?

exciting

Who is your sewing idol and why?

This is a tough one. My Grandmas are very amazing sewers. Some of their quilts are beyond amazing.  I follow many talented makers on Instagram. I learned so many great tips from Elenor Burns when I first got into quilting. So I dont know if I can answer this with just one person. I look up to so many people.

What notion could you not live without?

my loop turner… and bodkin . I use those pretty much everyday

What’s your favorite season?

SUMMER!!!! I love being outside, camping, soaking up those rays. Fall here is beautiful so I love seeing all the colors change but that always leads to cold winter days…. haha.

What’s your go-to coffee order?

Starbucks: Venti vanilla latte .  Reality: folgers with milk and sugar.

What other hobbies do you enjoy when you’re not sewing?

I love watercolor painting. I cant wait to have an area set up just for painting.

If you could only choose one song to play every time you walked into a room for the rest of your life, what would it be?

probably Vanilla Ice “Ice Ice Baby”  hahahhha . seriously – love that song.

Hope you enjoyed this post. We look forward to getting to know you. Be sure to join our FB support group, Facebook page and our Instagram page.
