SLPco Showcase Featuring Malibu

Hi there!  My name is Debbie and thank you for joining me on this blog post. Today I will be sharing with you the Malibu Twist & Bow Back Dress.

The Malibu is a pattern to get your creative juices flowing because it has so many style options. The dress calls for knit fabric and has a fully lined bodice. I chose to do the three tier strappy version and it came out so beautiful.

If you are not careful, you will spend more time hopping and skipping around trying to decide which fabric to use, and that may take you longer than sewing the pattern. That is because you get the chance to mix and match prints, use up those special scrap pieces or finally get to cut into a precious fabric print – yes, the one you have been saving for the right moment or the right pattern! Well that moment has finally arrived,  just as it did for this cherry print fabric I bought a few months ago. I was uncertain what to make with it until the Malibu!

My most favorite thing about the Malibu dress is that it is can take you through many seasons and occasions. My flower picking little one suffers badly from heat rashes, so a cool dress like this one will hep her through our ever warm weather. That is why it was important that I sewed a short sleeve version of the dress. However this pattern comes in sleeveless – using bands to complete the sleeveless armhole. You can also do a 3/4 sleeve and for warm cozy clothing during colder months, a long sleeve option also exists. It is easy to wear with a little sweater or shrug  to cover the open back.

You can also have the option of a circle skirt or gathered skirt. I chose the gathered skirt based on the availability of fabric, but we all know that a circle skirt is super easy as it eliminates gathering the waist of the dress. This circle skirt pattern has  side seams.

I made this dress for her special occasion –  an online birthday party to celebrate all of 4 years of being the cutest girl ever. I am sure this dress will see many school plays and concerts as soon as life allows.

So what are you waiting on to make this awesome dress?!. Now after you have made your version, please share with use over at Simple Life Pattern Company Facebook group so we can all be inspired.
