Inspired Halloween: Kids Shows!

Welcome to our second Halloween segment of 2023! Today we have put together costumes from some of the most popular kids shows. First up, let’s take a closer look at this incredible Blippi costume!

Blippi

This costume uses Maggie’s suspender shorts for the bottoms in a light gray cotton with the suspenders in a bright orange cotton.

“The shirt is a modified Stella tunic. I found the center of the shoulder and made a crease. Then I found the bottom of the bodice and made a crease. I drew a straight line from the shoulder crease to the bodice bottom crease. Next, I measured 3/8″ in each direction from the line I just created a drew another line.”

“I used those line to cut up the bodice pieces to add the Jaimesyn ruffle x WOF. I finished the top using the ruffle instructions from Jaimesyn and the dropped waist bodice instructions from Stella. I did add 1/2″ to the bottom of Stella and then added a 2″ band along the bottom for extra length so I could tuck the top into the Maggie shorts. “

“For the Blippi bow I cut several 1.5″ strips x WOF of blue and orange cotton fabric and sewed them together using a 1/4″ seam allowance. Once I had all my strips pieced together I cut the length to 20″. I folded the rectangle in half with right sides together and sewed around the 3 raw edges with a 1/4″ seam allowance, making sure to leave an opening to turn right side out. I topstiched around the edge. I pinched the center together and wrapped thread around the center to hold in place. Then I used some glittery ribbon and hot glue to attach a nylon headband and bow center. I used the same method to create the bowtie but at smaller dimensions.”

Bluey

“For Bluey, I decided to make a dress that my daughter could wear for school or play after halloween is over.  It turns out that the FREE Catalina pattern is the perfect base for a Bluey dress!  I didn’t need to change a thing on the dress pattern.

I got the applique pieces from a pillow applique pattern on the Bluey website.  I started by appliqueing the face pieces to the bodice.  Then I cut out four ear pieces and sewed them right sides together and turned and topstitched before appliqueing the center of the ear.  I then basted the ears to the top of the bodice before attaching the straps.  When I attached the straps, the ears were sandwiched between the strap and the bodice.  After attaching the straps, I appliqued the eyebrows to the bodice.  Then all I had to do was finish the dress according to the instructions.”

Gabby’s Dollhouse

This Gabby costume is made from a Dakota Dolman, Unwind Joggers, and a store-bought cardigan (that could easily be made with the Tiegan cardigan).

Mercat is an Autumn Shift Dress (sized up) with some colour-blocking, an added hem tail detail, and a hood (see Jayden or Cypress). On the hood is some appliquéd ears, scale details, and a star!
